What are Symbols?
- Symbols are used to denote values in certain scenarios.
- For example if a building would be 20 meters tall, it could be written as h = 20m. In this case "h" would be the symbol, standing for height.
- Most symbols start with the first letter of the measurement, for example W for work.
- Some symbols use Greek letters if others aren't available.
- Symbols are generally written in italics in order to not be confused with units.

Subscripts
- Some units have subscripts which indicate different things. For example frictional force is written as force is normally written but with an "f" subscript.
- Numbers can be written as subscripts to indicate different units for different scenarios or objects. For example if there would be two objects, one could have a mass of m₁ and the other could have m₂.
- Subscripts should not be confused with superscripts, which appear on the top right of variables instead of the bottom right. Superscripts indicate a power.
- Below is a list of subscripts for different symbols.

- Buoyancy - b
- Coefficient of Static Friction - s
- Coefficient of Dynamic Friction - d
