Rotational Kinetic Energy
What is Rotational Kinetic Energy?
- As a rotating object has angular velocity, it must have some kind of energy.
- This is rotational kinetic energy.
- Just how normal kinetic energy is calculated as Eₖ = 1/2*mv², rotational kinetic energy is calculated the same way, except mass is replaced with inertia and velocity is replaced with angular velocity.

- As angular momentum is equal to the product of inertia and angular velocity, we can substitute the values to provide the second definition.
