What is Resonance?
- Resonance is the name given to the increase in amplitude and energy of an oscillation that occurs when a periodic external driving force has the same frequency as the natural frequency of a system.
- As intensity, is power over area, which is itself energy over time, we can substitute energy in the relation between intensity and amplitude.
E ∝ A²

- If the external driving force is not the same as the natural frequency, then it creates damping instead.
Resonant Frequency
- The resonant frequency is the natural frequency of an object where it tends to vibrate at a higher amplitude.
- The resonant frequency is very close to or equal to the natural frequency.
- The greater the damping, the greater the dissipation of energy and the smaller the amplitude.
