- Totalitarianism is when the state has complete control over every aspect of the civilians’ lives.
- In totalitarian states the state which was led by one dominant party or person, would have strict control over daily life in the state.
- Propaganda, changing the education system, censorship, banning of free speech and oppostion, strict punishments, a paramilitary police force, conscription, etc. were all common practice in order to maintain control.
- Examples of totalitarian states were Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and the USSR.
