Populism

  • Populism is an ideology that suggests simple solutions to long-persisting and complicated problems.
  • They usually involve the persecution or removal of a certain minority, using them as an scapegoat to draw attention away from the fundamental problems.
  • Populism of course doesn't work out, as the solutions presented are unreasonable and would have already been implemented had they been that straightforward.
  • However people still tend to support populism, especially during times of hardship as the idea of a quick and easy solution is very appealing.
  • Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler both used populism to great effect when building their dictatorships.
