Militarism

  • Militarism was an ideology where a country would expand its army and usually invade other countries.
  • A militarist country would maintain a strong military and be prepared to use it aggressively, for national interests.
  • It was present mostly in authoritarian states, as in a democracy most citizens wouldn’t support conscription and great spendings on the military.
  • For example, Germany was very militarist during the later interwar period, right before the start of the Second World War.
