Imperialism

  • Imperialism was a foreign diplomacy where countries would take over other countries.
  • The aim was to increase the nations power and influence, usually forming a large empire.
  • Colonies were a key part of Imperialism as they were a sign of power, and allowed for the harvesting of resources and trade.
  • Imperialism is not to be confused with colonialism, which focuses more on the making of colonies themselves.
  • It usually involves colonies, such as the British Empire in the early 1900s. The idea lasted from about the late 19th century to the 20th century.
