Assonance

• This is the repetition of similar vowel sounds in a phrase or line. It can help with rhythm and/or rhyme.
• For example, in the poem 'Grass' by Carl Sandsburg, about war:

"And pile them high at Gettysburg,

And pile them high at Ypres and Verdun."
