Is it Bad to be Persuasive?
Is it Morally Bad to be Incredibly Persuasive?
- Being incredibly persuasive can have some moral problems, but overall the ability to persuade itself is not good nor bad.
- Persuasion is the act of influencing one's actions and thoughts through argumentation and presentation.
- Thus it has no capacity on its own to do any good or bad, but it has the ability to convince others to do good or bad.
- It is the responsibility of the person who possesses persuasive skills to use them responsibly and guide people to do the right things.
- For example persuasion can be used to rally up people to protest against climate change, however, the same skills can be used to convince people into buying a useless product they don't need in order to line one's pockets.
- As people are very social creatures, a lot of our emotions and actions are regulated to be fit for socializing and living with others.
- Persuasion works as likely because it had been needed by our ancestors in order to organize and convince everyone to act as a group and work for the group, ensuring better odds of survival.
- Persuasion now takes advantage of this instinctual behavior of the human mind.
- Therefor it is possible it could be considered morally bad, as it is essentially taking advantage of others.
- If persuasion is not used for one's gain, but for the greater good instead, I belive it is justifiable.
