Socrates

  • Philosophers before Socrates are called pre-Socratic philosophers as his philosophy divides ancient philosophy.
  • Socrates is known for not being bothered with answers, instead focusing on questions.
  • He was interested in the human ability to understand the things around us, studying the human mind. This is different to philosophers before who focused on how the world worked.
  • Socrates never wrote any books so all we know of him is notes taken by his student Plato.
  • Socrates said that knowledge is knowing what we don't know.
  • We can only have an idea of our reality.
  • This is why there are always new studies on already studied topics
